Congratulations to 2008 graduates!
Bismarck State College congratulates all the 2008 high school graduates and wishes you the best of luck in the future. We hope that your next graduation will be from BSC!

Instrumentation & Control Technology program begins in fall
BSC will begin offering Instrumentation and Control Technology, a new two-year program, this fall. Students will begin with courses in Electronics Technology for the first year of the Instrumentation & Control (I&C) program. The second-year courses in I&C will begin in the fall of 2009.

Students in the program will gain the skills and knowledge to install, repair, upgrade, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems. They will earn an associate in applied science degree or a diploma upon successful completion of the program.

BSC is the only college in the N.D. University System offering this two-year program.

Representatives from North Dakota's energy industry requested that BSC offer the program to help meet the growing need for skilled instrumentation and control technicians in North Dakota's power plants, ethanol plants and other process plants. Other employment opportunities would be with manufacturers of appliances, medical equipment, or others industrial sites in which automated systems are used.

For information about the program, contact Bob Arso, chair of the Industrial Technology Department, at 701-224-5416. For information about admissions, contact Marla Hagemeister at 701-224-2475.

Two new buildings nearing completion on BSC campus
BSC's campus is expanding with the addition of two new buildings. Lidstrom Hall, a student residence hall, and the National Energy Center of Excellence will be completed by the time students arrive for fall semester.

Suited to the needs of today's students, Lidstrom Hall is a co-ed hall divided into four pods to house nearly 80 students. Each pod includes four suites designed for four students per suite to share a common living area, restroom and two bedrooms. Each pod also has living quarters for a residence assistant, an ADA-accessible room for one or two students, and a mini-lounge.

Other features include a meeting room adjacent to kitchen facilities, main lounge with a pool table and large screen TV, and a second floor balcony that overlooks the lounge.

The National Energy Center of Excellence (NECE) has a physical prominence that reflects BSC's national reputation as a leading provider of training for the energy industry.

BSC's five energy technology programs, as well as related faculty and staff, will be located in the NECE. Labs will be equipped with the latest technology, and on-campus students will have twice as much lab space for instruction. This new center will also serve as a national resource center of education and training for the energy industry.
