You must take at least 15 General Education semester credit hours from the following areas:

Communications - 6 semester credit hours
Required ENGL 110 - College Composition I (3 hours)
An assessment of writing skills must be taken prior to enrollment. Accepted assessments are ACT, COMPASS and Accuplacer. The Accuplacer assessment is available entirely online. If you need assistance with your assessment scores, please contact Amanda Dockter at Amanda.Dockter@bsc.nodak.edu.

    Choose one of the following:

      PSYC 111 - Introduction to Psychology (3 hours)
      SOC 110 - Introduction to Sociology (3 hours)
      CJ 201 - Introduction to Criminal Justice (3 hours)

Math, Sciences, or Technology - 6 semester credit hours
    Choose two of the following courses in two different areas:
      ACCT 200 - Elements of Accounting I (3 hours)
      ACCT 201 - Elements of Accounting II (3 hours)
      BIO 111/111L - Concepts of Biology with lab (4 hours)
      CSCI 101 - Introduction to Computers (3 hours)

NOTE: The mathematics courses listed below require mathematics knowledge equivalent to intermediate algebra or college algebra (Math 102 or 103). If you do not have this math background, your advisor may help you enroll in an institution near you that can provide it.

    MATH 103 - College Algebra (4 hours)
      Pre-requisite: MATH 102, an ACT score of 19, or a COMPASS score of 51
    MATH 146 - Applied Calculus I (3 hours)
      Pre-requisite: MATH 103
    MATH 210 - Elementary Statistics (3 hours)
      Pre-requisite: MATH 102 or MATH 103

Note: General Education courses shown are those offered online through Bismarck State College. Other courses that are not online may also meet the requirements for this degree. If you have already taken general education courses at other institutions, some of those credits may satisfy these requirements. If you want to know whether courses you have taken elsewhere qualify, e-mail Amanda Dockter. If you plan to take a general education course from another institution and transfer the credits to Bismarck State College, you must receive written permission ahead of time from the Registrar's office at BSC.

* As part of the ENRT 220 Practical Applications course, students are required to complete "hands on" work at either a Power Generating Plant or at the BSC lab. If you choose to complete the work at a plant, we have someone who can assist you with setting this up.
