The Bismarck State College Library is pleased to provide you with
library services while you are enrolled at Bismarck State
College.
The Library staff at BSC is dedicated to making sure you get
the library services you need. If you would like to contact one
of us, feel free to
send us an online question, call us locally at 701-224-5450, or
toll-free at 1-800-445-5073, or send us a fax at
1-701-224-5551.
The first step towards receiving library services is to apply
for a library card. As soon as we have your application, we
will send you a library card with a barcode number. This card
will allow you to login to the ODIN magazine and
journal databases, and will allow you to check out materials from
the library. Databases (Articles & More)
ODIN
The Online Dakota Information Network
(ODIN), is our
statewide library catalog. Using ODIN, you can find books, CDs,
videos and other library materials in BSC's library or around the
state. You will also be able to place a request to have those
materials sent to you.
Logging on to the magazine, journal and newspaper
databases Databases (Articles & More)
You can access many full-text articles through our online
databases. If you are off campus and want to search the databases
(InfoTrac and Proquest magazine, journal and newspaper
databases), you will need to log in with a barcode number and
password. To access all available online databases, click this link: Databases (Articles & More).
- Your barcode number is the 14-digit number that you
will find on your library card or student id card. It is
not your NAID number. Use only numbers. If the
number has an "A" at the beginning, and a "B" at the end,
disregard these letters.
- Your password is your last name. The password is not case-sensitive.
- Your login will look like this: 23103000999999 yourlastname
Reference
The Bismarck State College Library reference and information
services extends the same support and privileges to its
off-campus patrons as it does to those on campus. If you need
help finding information, please feel free to submit an
online question or to call us at 1-800-445-5073.
Interlibrary Loan(ILL) and Document Delivery
Once you have identified the materials you need, you may want to
look at your local library. If they are not available locally,
you may ask the staff at the Bismarck State College Library to
send them to you. Always try searching Bismarck State College
Library's collection first, then search in all ODIN libraries.
You can interlibrary loan library materials directly from the
ODIN search results screen. When you locate an item you need,
simply click on the "Send ILL Request" button at the bottom of
your screen. Then fill out the barcode, password and date needed
by information, and again click "Send ILL Request". Materials
will be sent to you free of charge, but you will be responsible
for return postage.
If you would like journal articles which are not available
full-text online through our databases, we can obtain them for
you and send a photocopy directly to you. There is no charge for
this service. You would need to fill out an interlibrary loan
request with as much information about the article as possible,
and we would locate the article and mail it off to you. To do
this, from the ODIN homepage click on Patron
Information and Requests. Next click in the circle in
front of "Submit an Interlibrary Loan Request to your library."
Then click the Go button. You should fill out the form as
completely as possible. Should we not be able to locate the item
you requested, we will notify you.
Electronic Reserves
The Electronic Reserves (ERes) service at BSC is not yet
functional. Look here for course specific reserve materials in
the future.
