Information Processing Specialist

You can earn a certificate in BSC's Information Processing Specialist Program by completing the online courses. The curriculum is designed for students who want to upgrade their microcomputer application background. Computer technology has profoundly influenced the kinds of jobs available and the way work is organized and performed.

Information Processing Specialist students must possess a variety of communication, business, keyboarding, and technological skills. Students receive concentrated training on various applications of the microcomputer including keyboarding, word processing, database management, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, electronic presentations, world wide web research, electronic publishing (creation of web pages).

Placement includes working as an information processing specialist in government agencies, educational institutions, law offices, sales offices, service agencies, insurance companies, or bank and investment firms.

Requirements:

Students must complete 30 hours from the following courses.

These courses may be applied toward an Associate in Applied Science degree or a diploma.

  • CSCI 101: Intro to Computers (3 semester hours)
  • BOTE:102: Keyboarding I (3 semester hours)
  • BOTE 152: Keyboarding II (3 semester hours)
  • CIS 102: Computer Software Apps - Word (3 semester hours)
  • CIS110: Desktop Publishing (3 semester hours)
  • CIS 105: Microcomputer Spreadsheets (3 semester hours)
  • CIS 103: Computer Software Apps - WordPerfect (3 semester hours)
  • CIS 104: Microcomputer Database (3 semester hours)
  • CIS 202: Advanced Software Apps (3 semester hours)
  • CIS 210: Advanced Desktop Publishing (3 semester hours)
  • CIS 130: Presentations (3 semester hours)
  • CIS 230: Electronic Publishing (3 semester hours)
  • ENGL 125: Introduction to Professional Writing (3 semester hours) *Pre-requisite: ENGL 110.

Students must earn at least 12 semester hours of institutional credit from Bismarck State College.

Students must achieve a minimum 2.00 grade point average (C average) in the prescribed vocational-technical program (Info Processing Specialist), as well as in all credits from Bismarck State College.

In order to graduate and receive the certificate, students must clear all college obligations and file an Application for Graduation in the Registrar's Office at the beginning of the semester/term in which the student expects to complete requirements for graduation.
