With many changing technologies, all the programs in our department are continually improving, which results in great opportunities for our students. -- Lee Friese

Friese started as department chair in 2001 and currently teaches automotive electrics, brakes and engine performance. He also oversees BSC automotive and HVAC programs for the state Department of Corrections.

A native of Bismarck, Friese studied architecture at North Dakota State University and earned associate in applied science degrees in architectural drafting and automotive technology from North Dakota State College of Science. He later acquired a BS in technical education from Valley City State University.

A veteran of the Iraq war, 1st Sgt. Friese served in the North Dakota Army National Guard 23 years, retiring in 2008. At that time, he started a building company, LG Homes, which operates during the summer and allows him to use his architectural drafting skills.

Friese began his teaching career at United Tribes Technical College, Bismarck. He joined BSC in 1997 as an automotive technology instructor and contract trainer for General Motors Corp. technicians in various cities. Prior to teaching, he worked for Ford and Chevrolet dealerships in Grand Forks and Bismarck.
