USA Group announces a new opportunity to help students who have
particular challenges in achieving their higher education goals.
Continuing our commitment to higher education
For nearly 40 years, USA Group has championed access to higher
education for all students. Initially the program takes that
commitment further by offering financial assistance to students
who face economic need and who are US citizens and are either
members of ethnic minority groups or have documented physical
disabilities. The Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America
(CSFA) will administer the program and select the scholarship
recipients.
Creating opportunities for those in need
USA Group will award up to $10 million in scholarships over the
next three to five years. In 2000, the scholarships will benefit
approximately 600 to 700 high school seniors or currently
enrolled college students. Scholarship recipients will receive
$1,000 to $2,000 based on their documented financial need. The
awards are renewable for up to three years, if students meet
academic criteria.
Applicants from all 50 states are eligible for the program.
Judges will give particular consideration to applicants from 15
areas - the nine states in which USA Funds is the designated
guarantor of federal education loans and in another five states
plus the District of Columbia, in which one-third or more of
post-secondary students are members of ethnic minority
groups.
